Sohpia Loren has finally revealed what was going through her mind in the famous 1957 picture of her staring at Jayne Mansfield's breasts.
The black and white photo has gone down in infamy as the ultimate side-eye, with Loren appearing to be jealous over the blond actress' barely covered bosom as they sat next to each other at a dinner party in Beverly Hills, California.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly from her home in Switzerland, the 80-year-old Italian actress said that's not the case.
"Where are my eyes? I'm staring at her nipples because I'm afraid they are about to come onto my plate," Loren told EW.
The beauty icon was attending a party Paramount organized for her when a photographer captured the apparent stink-eye.
"All of cinema was there, it was incredible. And then comes Jayne Mansfield, the last one to come. For me, that was when it got amazing," Loren told the magazine.
"She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely...Listen. Look at the picture," Loren said, explaining that the look on her face was one of distress, and not envy.
"In my face you can see the fear. I'm so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow- BOOM!- and spill all over the table."
Mansfield, who is the mother of "Law & Order: SVU's" Mariska Hargitay, tragically died in a car accident in 1967. Loren told EW that over the years she received requests to sign the photograph, but she always turned them down "out of respect for Jayne Mansfield because she's not with us anymore."
