UFC fans looking forward to seeing Rashad Evans take on Alexander Gustafsson will be disappointed to learn that Evans has put off the potential bout to recover from an injury.
The decision comes after the lightweight expressed interest in fighting Gustafsson, which led to rumors that the fight would take place in January, according to Bloody Elbow. Evans' recent interview with Ariel Helwani on "UFC Tonight," however, was confirmation that this bout won't be taking place.
"My leg isn't strong," the 35-year-old fighter said. "I can't explode off it like I normally used to be able to and it still feels unstable. My management team wouldn't let me take the fight."
Evans' manager, Glenn Robison, told him, "At this stage of your career there is no need to rush into a fight especially coming back from a major injury," MMA Fighting reported.
While an Evans vs. Gustafsson isn't on the horizon, Evans' fans will be happy to hear that the lightweight plans on returning to the Octagon in March 2015.
