Deathly Selfie: Polish Tourist Falls Off Famous Bridge While Taking Picture

A Polish tourist plunged to her death while trying to take the perfect selfie on top of the famous Puente de Triana bridge in the southern Spanish city of Seville.

Sylwia Rajchel, 23, from the city of Lublin in eastern Poland, was balancing on the edge of the bridge taking a selfie before she slipped and crashed onto the concrete footings of the bridge supports, reported Mail Online.

Medics came to Rajchel's rescue quickly and tried reviving her when she went into cardiac arrest, but she died from her injuries at the Hospital of Traumatology, according to Mail Online.

Built in the 19th century, the Puente de Triana bridge is the most photographed landmark in Seville. It's a popular tourist location, as it's surrounded by restaurants, bars and clubs.

"This was a tragic accident and we are looking to make that stretch of boulevard along the river safer," a city spokesman said in a statement.

Rajchel's father is already in the country to collect the body.

"She was a beautiful, smiling girl who had her whole life ahead of her," Rajchel's mother, Bernadeta, 44, told Mail Online. "It's hard to believe what's happened, that I will never see Sylvia again. That I won't hug her and will never be able to tell her how much I love her and how proud I was of her. It breaks my heart, I feel this is a nightmare that is not happening."

Rajchel was a nursing student at the University of Medicine in Posada, and her dream was to work in Spain one day. Her mother said that before Rajchel's trip, she learned to speak Spanish.
