Victoria's Secret Changes Controversial 'Perfect Body' Ad After Backlash

After Victoria's Secret received a lot of backlash about its "Perfect Body" campaign, including an online petition asking them to take it down, the retailer quietly changed the advertisement.

The original advertisement for its new "body" bra featured a line of skinny models - who all looked relatively the same - with the words "The Perfect Body."

To many people, the advertisement appeared to be telling girls that the women pictured have the "perfect body."

Three girls (Gabriella Kountourides, Laura Ferris and Frances Black) were so outraged by the advertisement that they started a change.org petition to get the popular lingerie brand to change the message they were sending to girls.

Victoria's Secret never commented on the issue. The petitioners stumbled upon the webpage with the advertisement that angered them recently, and discovered it was changed. The advertisement still features the same line of skinny models, but the slogan was changed to "A Perfect Body For Every Body."

The change sent a better message, but the petitioners aren't done with Victoria's Secret just yet, according to a statement released by the trio:

"We are overjoyed that Victoria's Secret have listened to the public and changed the wording to 'A Body for Every Body,' as we feel that this sends out a more inclusive, healthy message. However, we are still waiting for Victoria's Secret to apologize and pledge that they will not use such harmful marketing in the future, as we do not feel it is enough for them to just change the wording. We would also like them to change all advertising in their stores that still bears the text "The Perfect 'Body.' As such, we will continue promoting the petition and the campaign."

Since Victoria's Secret did not comment on the issue, it remains unclear if the petition or the social media backlash definitely attributed to the slogan change.
