Free agent Ray Allen reportedly has been in contact with the Chicago Bulls. The report follows a number of Allen sightings in Chicago this week, possibly indicating the Cleveland Cavaliers might not be the frontrunners for him anymore.
Allen was spotted in the Chicago area this week, according to a number of social media posts. The presence of Allen in the Windy City had people thinking the veteran was leaning toward signing with the Bulls, and according to the Chicago Tribune, Allen recently has been in contact with the team's front office.
Chicago needs scoring and would likely be willing to offer Allen more money than the Cavaliers, who've long been considered the front runners to sign the 39 year old.
Allen's agent, though, disputed the report of Allen being in Chicago to meet with the Bulls.
Per RealGM:
"Free agent Ray Allen is visiting Chicago this week and has been spotted on several social media platforms, but his agent Jim Tanner told RealGM on Thursday: 'Nothing to do with the Bulls.'"
Cleveland has been considered the frontrunners to land the 3-point specialist, largely because of his friendship with ex-teammate LeBron James and the Cavaliers' chances of making it to the NBA finals. He isn't short on suitors, though. Among the teams reportedly pursuing him are the Washington Wizards, the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Allen, though, purportedly is still deciding whether he wants to return to the NBA for his 19th season. Most people believe he will return this season but is waiting until later in the year to limit the wear-and-tear on his body.
