Baylor (7-1) bounced back from their 41-27 loss at West Virginia with a 60-14 blowout against Kansas. Bears quarterback Bryce Petty threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns while leading the offense on 11 consecutive scoring drives.
"He's in a mode where it's kind of a no-nonsense mentality," Baylor coach Art Briles told the Associated Press. "So I certainly appreciate that part of it."
Oklahoma (6-2) is also coming off a win. The Sooners handed Iowa State a 59-14 loss last week, thanks in part to sophomore quarterback Trevor Knight's 230 passing yards and three touchdowns, along with 146 yards and a trio of scores on the ground. The performance earned Knight the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award, according to the Associated Press.
Tight end Blake Bell also had a big game, catching two touchdown passes in Sterling Shephard's absence.
"He's a big target," coach Bob Stoops said of Bell, "and particularly in the red zone when you can throw it over the linebacker and feel you're not going to throw it out of the end zone because of his height and his ability to go up and get it. He's got great hands, and he continues to improve blocking-wise the more he does it."
Despite his team's gaudy numbers, Stoops thought his team could have played better.
"I'll say this -- to their credit, they played really hard," he said. "They competed. They were chasing people down field trying to block. It's a lot to build on. I'm not ragging on them. It just needs to be better. But I was excited to see them compete the way they did."
