Selena Gomez is baring it all.
Just hours after releasing her new single, "The Heart Wants What It Wants" - a love ballad reportedly about on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber - the singer is opening up about being vulnerable in her music.
In an interview Thursday with Ryan Seacrest for "On Air with Ryan Seacrest," the former Disney darling was asked if she was nervous about releasing her new single.
"Everybody wants to form their own opinions anyway," Gomez explained. "I think the biggest problem I had this year - even with [Justin] and on his side - is identity... I was trying to figure out what I'm doing, and that was the first time I was constantly being kicked down for doing that."
Gomez told Seacrest that she felt emotionally attacked, adding, "When I didn't know, I just wanted to say, 'This is what I want, this is where I am in my professional life, things changed in my personal life, things changed in my heart-everything.' And yeah, I made some decisions that weren't great as well, and so did he and that's why we went through all that to only make us better."
The actress said that Bieber heard the song and saw the video and reportedly "thought it was beautiful." She jokingly added that Bieber "was a little jealous of the video guy."
Gomez mentioned that her best friend Taylor Swift also heard the track and thought it was "amazing." The "Spring Breakers" actress said she considers the song a message "all girls need to hear."
So what took so long for the track and video to be released?
"The video was supposed to come out three times and through coincidence or through changes [in my life], it just didn't happen," she explained. "And it's also a step for me knowing like, 'Ok, this is what I'm about to say, and I need to say it when I'm ready.' And I think after this year, it's the perfect way to end the year, it's the perfect way to end a chapter in a way."
Still, when asked about her current relationship status with "Boyfriend" singer, Gomez replied, "I support him. I think I always will. I'm upset when he's upset, I'm happy when he's happy. I don't want anything to ever happen to him bad. It hurts me. That's all."
