Erin Brockovich, the environmental activist who was portrayed by Julia Roberts in the Award winning movie with the same title, has been arrested after she was caught boating while under the influence of alcohol on Sunday, according to reports.
Erin Brocovich, who fought authorities over the pollution in a California taught, got into some hot water with police officers after it was discovered she was above the legal alcohol level on Friday. Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Edwin Lyngar says Brockovich was arrested after breath tests showed her blood-alcohol level was just over twice the legal limit of .08.
The report said the officer first took notice of Erin Brokovich, 52, as she was struggling and needed assistance while trying to moor her motor boat at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor near Boulder City.
Lyngar says she had been out on the boat with a male companion but was alone when she tried to dock the boat.
"She was not sure how to maneuver the boat into the dock," Lyngar told The Associated Press. "It's a simple thing if you can think clearly. But if you add alcohol and unfamiliarity of the area, it can all cause serious problems."
Since this was Erin Brokovich's first-time offense of boating while intoxicated, she received a fine of $1,000 with no jail time. Authorities were unsure whether it was Brockovich's first arrest on the charge.
