Hairbrained Schemes, the studio behind the "Shadowrun" series, is going to be developing another game, with the beguiling title of "Necropolis," according to Rock, Paper, Shotgun. The game is going to be a third-person, dungeon-crawling, "rogue-like," with randomly generated dungeons for the player to embark upon, very unlike what "Shadowrun" was. "Necropolis" is also being described as having "low-poly visuals," meaning that most systems will be able to handle it.
The game pitches you into a massive tomb, changing at the whim of a being called the Brazen Head: a supernatural intelligence created by an archmage by the name of Abraxis. The Necropolis itself is filled with the reanimated corpses of adventurers who tried to tackle it before, probably meaning that there'll be a "Zombi U"-esque mechanic instilled into the game. This experience's overall concept is a bit off the beaten path, so here's what Hairbrained Schemes themselves has to say about it:
"Thousands have entered the Necropolis. Legend says, somewhere inside, undead and immortal, Abraxis presides on an onyx throne. In ten centuries, only one adventurer has escaped, and I'm afraid he emerged quite mad. But you ... I'm sure you'll make it out just fine. You seem like the adventurous type."
Necropolis will be released for PC and Mac during sometime in 2016. There's no information as of yet as to what consoles the game is going to be released on, but it is slated for a nondescript console release as well.
"Shadowrun Returns" was a well-made gem of a game, and Hairbrained's upcoming "Golem Arcana" looks pretty sweet as well. Here's hoping their winning streak continues with "Necropolis" in 2016.
