A passenger on an Air Canada flight suffered a head injury and was rushed to the hospital when a propeller came loose and cut through the cabin, ABC News reported on Sunday.

Christina Kurylo was flying from Calgary to Grande Prairie when a tire exploded during take off, causing the plane to crash land in Edmonton on Thursday.

As the plane made impact with the ground, the right side landing gear fell apart and sent one of the propellers crashing through the side of the aircraft.

Kurylo said she is lucky to be alive, and is being treated for bruising and a concussion, the Daily Mail reported.

"All of a sudden I got hit in the head," she said. "It was pretty confusing for me. It's bits and pieces for me after that."

Kurylo's colleague at a radio station in Grand Prairie, Alberta, where she works, was also on the flight. Melissa Menard said her friend was quite beaten up after the ordeal.

"Just from the blow of it happening she had quite a huge head lump and it was quite purple and lots of bruises and scratches," she said.

Four other passengers in addition to Kurylo sought medical attention for injuries. There were 75 people in total aboard the plane.

Authorities are investigating what went wrong with the plane, but expect the aircraft to be back in service within the next few months.

The incident comes after Scandinavia Airlines withdrew from using the same model Jazz Aviation aircraft after similarly troubling events occurred in 2007.

There were six incidents around the world involving Jazz Aviation planes between March 2007 and August 2008.

An Air Canada Jazz plane also had difficulties in 2013 when a landing gear wheel fell off as it came in for a landing.
