Warner Bros. may have officially signed on a female director for Gal Gadot’s upcoming “Wonder Woman” solo film.
Forbes contributor and director Lexi Alexander shot down rumors claiming the studio has approached her with the DC project, claiming Warner Bros. has already offered the directorial role to another woman.
"If she says yes, everybody will be very happy, including me,” Alexander said. “Still, I don’t see at this point why anyone would say yes. There is huge pressure … If [a female director] does fail, then all of a sudden it’s ‘all women suck at directing.’”
Unfortunately, Alexander didn’t reveal the name of the director Warner Bros. has officially approached with the DC project. Another Forbes contributor, film blogger Mark Hughes, claimed the original list he published contained the names of all the directors in the running.
"This list includes Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), Mimi Leder (Deep Impact), Karyn Kusama (Girlfight), and Julie Taymor, the woman responsible for the disastrous Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark," ComicBookMovie reports. "However, she has found acclaim for her work on The Tempest and others. Also being considered are TV directors Michelle MacLaren (Game of Thrones) and Tricia Brook (The Walking Dead)."
The “Wonder Woman” film is reportedly set in the 1920's around the time of the Women’s rights movement. Diana Prince’s origins have also been confirmed as a demigod, daughter of Zeus, from the Greek mythology.
Wonder Woman will make her debut in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," which will be released on March 25, 2016. “Wonder Woman” is slated to hit theaters some time in 2017.
