Xbox One November Update Lets You Customize Your Background

The November update to the Xbox One has been launched, and it is the last update Microsoft's gaming console will receive this year.

Several changes are making their way to the Xbox One, including customizable backgrounds, a feature that has a received a great amount of requests from gamers, according to PC Magazine. In addition to putting achievements and game clips in the background, gamers can share their locations, bios and a maximum of six game clips or achievements on their profiles.

The SmartGlass app will now show other players' profiles, and you will be able to see what games your friends have played. Twitter will now work with live TV to show other people's conversations about different shows in real time. New sections include one for apps and another one called "Coming Soon" that shows upcoming games arranged based on their expected release dates.

Another new addition is the "Restart Now" option that lets you restart the console whenever you want, IGN reported.

The November update follows a month after Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox division, revealed on a podcast that the company was working on a way for players to customize themes, colors, background pictures and in-game screenshots

Microsoft's Larry Hryb, a.k.a. Major Nelson, wrote in a blog post that gamers can now "use the Media Player app to pick any JPG or PNG image off of a USB attached drive or a home media server that supports DLNA. While viewing a picture/photo in full screen mode, press the Menu button and choose 'Set as background'- your custom image is stored locally on that Xbox One console."

Several changes were made to the Xbox One in its first year, including the addition of a low battery indicator, external storage, the ability to remotely download content and the option to turn off notifications during video playback, PC Magazine reported.

"Although we will not be putting out an update in December, we remain committed to continually improving Xbox One and will share more details early next year on what we have planned for 2015," Hryb said.
