Dallas Cowboys star receiver Dez Bryant reminded everyone Sunday why he's playing hardball with the team over a new contract. Bryant hauled in six catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yard score at the end of the second quarter.
Bryant reportedly turned down a 10-year offer worth $114 million from the Cowboys. The deal included just $20 million in guaranteed money, according to ProFootballRumors.com. Such a deal would provide short-term security for Bryant, but would also allow the Cowboys to cut ties with the mercurial receiver after the end of each season.
Dallas now seems hesitant to offer Bryant a long-term deal due to concerns over his character.
"Cowboys seem reluctant to engage in serious discussions about a long-term extension for now, making the franchise tag a more plausible option for Bryant. The 26-year-old said a week ago that he'd be 'highly disappointed' if the Cowboys franchised him," wrote Luke Adams.
The Cowboys are concerned about Bryant's maturity, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report.
Bryant recently signed with Jay Z's Roc Nation agency against the wishes of Jerry Jones. The fifth-year receiver has 56 catches for 793 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
