Chicago Bears NEWS: Trestman Says Jay Cutler Must Play Better, Won’t Bench Him Against Vikings Next Week

Despite the string of bad performances from Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, coach Marc Trestman isn't considering benching him. Trestman said Cutler needed to play better, and called it "disturbing" that the issues Cutler has displayed on Sundays haven't shown up in practices.

Chicago dropped their third straight game Sunday in a 55-14 blowout to the Green Bay Packers. While the defense failed to show up again, Cutler's performance didn't help: he finished with 272 yards for one touchdown and a pair of interceptions.

"He didn't play well enough yesterday, and we didn't play well enough," Trestman said, via ESPN. "I'm certain he'd take accountability for that. But it's very clear he did not play well enough yesterday. We can't sugarcoat that. At the same time, we didn't play collectively well enough as a team."

Cutler dropped to 1-11 against Green Bay and finished the game with a passer rating of 68.8, his worst of the season, according to ESPN. Although Cutler has played poorly, Trestman has yet to consider benching him.

"I think that it's all [judged] on an individual basis," Trestman said when asked about benching quarterbacks. "We haven't even had a chance to look at the game with Jay and get his feedback. Certainly we know that Jay's not comfortable with the way he played yesterday, no doubt about it. It's just an individual basis. I think that we've all got to do better. I know it starts with the quarterback. It always does. But there's a lot of things that have got to [happen] before something like that would be a consideration."

Chicago plays the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
