Bill Cosby took to Twitter on Monday to ask fans to turn his photos in a meme, but the results might not be what he had in mind. The tweet has been deleted as of Tuesday morning, according to USA Today.
The Cosby Show comedian, 77, has been in the midst of controversy after women have come forward saying he sexually assaulted them. He settled a 2006 lawsuit of a woman who said Cosby drugged and raped her, the Associated Press said. Since 2002, 13 women have come forward saying they were abused by Cosby.
Some users drew on those allegations for the memes, using the hashtag #CosbyMeme. The photos used as the basis for the memes are form The Cosby Show's run from 1984 to 1992.
Cosby memes have been online for quite some time, but the reason for Cosby inviting the parodies is not known, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Submissions to his website are reviewed, but users can easily share their own creations outside of the website.
Other agencies have invited social media campaigns that have backfired.
The New York City Police Department asked their Twitter followers to upload photos with an officer in April. Users took this time to upload photos of police brutality with the hashtag #myNYPD.
