The NFLPA filed a grievance against the NFL and Minnesota Vikings on Monday to try and get Adrian Peterson reinstated to Minnesota's active roster. The Players Association is arguing that Peterson should have been removed from the NFL's exempt list once his legal situation was resolved.

A decision on Peterson's NFL status is expected before the team's Week 12 matchup against the division rival Green Bay Packers, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

"Under Article 43 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, a hearing on the expedited grievance must occur within seven days of its filing. In this case, the hearing will happen by Monday, November 17. The grievance then must be resolved within five days after the hearing," Mike Florio wrote.

"At the latest, Peterson's status will be determined by Saturday, November 22 - one day before the Vikings launch a three-game home stand commencing with the Packers."

Florio noted that the issue could be resolved even sooner than that.

"The grievance could, as a practical matter, be resolved sooner than that. A conference call will happen as soon as Tuesday between the league, the NFLPA, and arbitrator Shyam Das. The arbitrator ... could inform that parties that the hearing will happen this week, and Das could in turn rule quickly - possibly, at the hearing itself."

Despite the clear timetable, it's possible that this situation will not get resolved quickly or easily. ESPN's Ed Werder believes the battle between Peterson and the NFL could continue and perhaps intensify.

Peterson was placed on the NFL's exempt list in September, barring him from all team activities, but still allowing him to receive his full salary.
