Police are looking for clues in the mysterious death of a 23-year-old woman in a New Mexico park, with her 6-year-old son found near the body, Yahoo News reported.

The woman's 6-year-old son was found in the parking lot, alive and safe. What he told investigators has pointed them towards homicide and police will be looking over surveillance video of the area.

Ariel Ulibarri's body was discovered after people heard shots and screaming at the Goodwin Lake Trails Walking Park.

It's unclear whether the woman was attacked by a stranger or someone she knew, according to Police Capt. Patrick Whitney. The specifics of how she was killed have not been made public and an autopsy will be conducted by the state medical examiner. The results will probably not be available for a number of weeks.

The park opened in 2011, and Police Sgt. Daron Roach said emergency responders have barely gotten any calls about incidents in the park, Fox News reported.

Mark Dayhoff, parks director, said grassy areas around the trail aren't kept up because it's supposed to be a trail in nature without much human interference.
