Yo dawg, Randy Jackson is leaving "American Idol." The only judge left from the original panel will exit the singing-competition before the Fox series returns in January.
He previously announced his departure from the judge's panel in May 2013 after 12 seasons, but was invited back as a mentor for season 13.
Fox, "American Idol" and show producers FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment released a statement on Jackson's departure.
"Randy has been such an integral part of 'American Idol' since day one, both as a judge and as a mentor. He's provided great advice and support, shaping the success of so many Idols we have discovered over the years. We wish him all the best in his next chapter. Randy will always be part of our 'Idol' family and we hope he'll visit from time to time."
Jackson started as a judge with Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul when the show began in 2002. "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest stands as the only original member of the first season team still with the show.
Season 13 judges will all return for the next season in January 2015. Jennifer Lopez returned to the show last season after serving as a judge for seasons 10 and 11. She sits on the panel between country music star Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr.
