'Slender Man' Stabbing Suspect Now Mentally Fit For Trial, Wisconsin Doctor Says

One of two 12-year-old girls accused of nearly stabbing their friend to death to gain favor with a mythical being is now mentally competent to stand trial, according to a Wisconsin state doctor.

At a Waukesha County court hearing on Wednesday, a judge relayed a statement from the doctor saying Morgan Geyser's mental state has improved after she was ordered to receive treatment in August, the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel reported.

"To me, that means she's competent to proceed," Judge Michael Bohren said according to the newspaper.

But Bohren postponed the final ruling on the girl's competency when her lawyer, Anthony Cotton, said he needs time to discuss the doctor's findings with his client, the Associated Press reported.

Though the AP did not mention Geyser by name, the news agency noted the suspect appeared more calm and aware of her surroundings on Wednesday. Her hair was brushed out of her face and she sat still instead of rocking back and forth in her seat like she did at previous court hearings.

No other details about the state doctor's findings were released, the Journal Sentinel reported.

Geyser has spent the last four months at a state psychiatric facility in Oshkosh, where a judge sent her after a psychologist expressed concern for her mental health, the newspaper reported.

The psychologist testified the 12-year-old said she sees unicorns and could hear Voldemort, the villain from "Harry Potter."

She also said she has mind control powers and that the "Slender Man," a demon-like being with no face from Internet horror-story lore, is real.

It was the Slender Man that Geyser and the other suspect, Anissa Weier, reportedly told investigators they wanted to run away with. In order to please him, they planned to kill their 12-year-old friend, whom they stabbed 19 times and left to die in the woods in May, according to police. The victim was rescued.

Both girls are charged as adults but defense attorneys are currently trying to get both cases moved to juvenile court.

A competency hearing for Weier is scheduled for December, according to the AP.

Geyser is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.
