"The Boy Is Mine' belongs to Brandy and Monica and it will remain that way.
Reports that Ariana Grande and Jessie J would cover the hit song from 1998 proved false, according to E! News.
"It's absolutely not happening," a source told E! News. "Neither Ariana or Jessie knew a thing about this until all these reports came out. It totally came out of left field."
The artists had no idea about their involvement in the project proposed by producer Rodney Jerkins in an interview with Hits Daily Double. Jerkins will celebrate his 20-year anniversary in the music business next year and planned to release a "very special project" with some original songs as well as some covers.
"So for example, I'll do 'The Boy Is Mine' with Ariana and Jessie J," he said.
He also said he asked Sam Smith to participate with his version of the Whitney Houston song "It's Not Right But It's Okay." Smith told Jerkins it's the song that made him want to become a singer.
"When I asked him if he'd be a part of this project he was like, 'No one else can do that song but me!' Sam's the truth. He has a great heart and he's genuine. His music speaks for who he is," Jerkins said.
Neither Ariana nor Jessie commented on their alleged duet. Ariana did tweet she had a "couple of announcements" coming up, the first on Thursday (Nov. 13) and another one on Monday (Nov. 17).
Jessie J did team up with Jennifer Hudson to perform a cover of David Guetta song "Titanium" (featuring Sia) at The Concert for Valor in Washington D.C. on Veterans Day. She also sang her song "Bang Bang," which she originally recorded with Ariana and Nicki Minaj.
