Although it's a friendly, neither team is expected to be complacent. Portugal rolls into Switzerland fresh off a World Cup qualifying game victory over Russia, 1-0. Croatia, meanwhile, wants to bounce back from a surprise 0-1 loss to a third-string Scottish team, Goal.com reports.
Croatia, which is favored to win by William Hill at odds of 3.30, is vying for the top spot in the World Cup's Group A. Their upset loss on Friday didn't help their cause, dropping them to 5-1-1 in the qualifiers. Manager Igor Stimac expects a better performance from his team on Monday.
Portugal is fighting to remain in contention for the 2014 World Cup. Although the Portuguese are 4-1-2 in the qualifiers, they've lost their last two friendlies against Ecuador and Gabon. As the club competes with Israel and Russia for the 2014 spot in Brazil, manager Paulo Bento will use Monday's match to tinker with his lineup and strategy.
