Wednesday night's matchup between Indiana and Miami won't be the same as it used to be. Indiana has an injury-depleted roster, with Paul George likely finished for the season, George Hill out until December and David West sidelined with a sprained ankle. The injuries have given some of Indiana's younger and lesser known players a chance to shine, which has coach Frank Vogel somewhat adjusting the way he coaches the team.
"I look at us as a young team just because everybody is new to their role, and any kind of success can be a confidence builder," Vogel said, via ESPN. "Build on the things we are doing well. Just understand that we can be better and correct the things we are not doing well enough."
Miami, meanwhile, is without superstar LeBron James. Despite losing the future Hall of Famer in the offseason, the Heat have battled their way to a 5-2 record. Although they're heading into Wednesday's game with a two-game winning streak, coach Erik Spoelstra said his team still has a lot of work to do.
"We're trying to develop habits right now, and at the end of the day it always looks better when the ball goes in," he said. "Over the course of a long season, if you're building those habits, you hope that there's a karma to that. Guys are starting to see the benefits of playing together."
In James's absence, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade have stepped up. Bosh is averaging 23.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, and Wade appears to be healthy while averaging 19.7 points and 6.9 assists per game.
"I really respect how much time he puts in behind the scenes," Spoelstra said of Wade, who's averaging over 30 minutes per game. "His body is responding."
