NBC plans to revive the syndicated series "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," famously hosted by Robin Leach in the 1980s and '90s, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The network has tapped "America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon to serve the same role for the new program. The former Style channel originally attached Cannon to a similar revival but the show came to a halt when Style rebranded as the Esquire Network.
NBC's "Lifestyles" will view the uber-wealthy personalities through Cannon's eyes and choose participants with "vibrant personalities, hobbies and tastes," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Guests will include the new leaders in technology who have replaced the real estate tycoons featured on Leach's old show.
Leach, the British-born entertainment reporter, gave Americans their first look into the lifestyles of the extravagantly wealthy before shows like MTV's "Cribs," VH1's "The Fabulous Life" and every other reality show where celebrities willingly invite cameras into their homes. The original host would sign off each episode with his signature phrase, "Champagne wishes and caviar dreams."
The new series won't focus all its attention on the mega-million dollar homes, luxury vehicles and other must-have toys. Cannon will also feature his guests' philanthropic efforts.
NBC has order a pilot for the unscripted series, which Cannon will also executive produce. The multi-talented entertainer will keep busy with MTV2 recently renewing his shows "Wild 'N Out" and "Guy Code."
