Twitter Updates to Include Video Sharing, Timelines and Highlights

Twitter announced at its Analyst Day conference Wednesday that video sharing will soon be a feature on its website.

Recording and editing videos will also be possible, giving users more options than just sharing six-second Vine videos, which can only be sent if you have the Vine app installed on your phone, according to PC Magazine.

"Alongside short looping Vine videos, we think you'll have fun sharing what's happening in your world through native video," Kevin Weil, vice president of product at Twitter, wrote in a blog post.

Video sharing is only one of several new features that Twitter plans to launch soon, which include timelines that are based on locations and aimed at making it easier for people to sign up on the site, PCWorld reported. Trevor O'Brien, director of product management at Twitter, said that while the website knows where its users sign up, the new timelines will allow the company to figure out where content comes from and where people are having conversations.

"Understanding the places you care about: the place you're standing when you access Twitter or your hometown across the country, or someplace around the globe that's captured your attention. Organizing the world's conversations in real-time offers us limitless possibilities," he said.

Twitter is also working on timeline highlights that will appear under the "While you were away ..." header and show you what you missed during a football game, concert or other huge event.

Another priority for Twitter is updating Direct Messages to let users share and discuss tweets, which will make it easier to have public conversations in a private manner, according to PC Magazine.

You won't have to wait long for the video feature since Weil said Twitter users will be able start sharing videos in early 2015.
