There are still roughly three weeks left until Black Friday. But that didn't stop two friends in California for camping out in anticipation of the big holiday sales, ABC 7 reported on Tuesday.
Juanita Alva and Vicky Torres secured their spot in front of a local Best Buy last week. They packed bags with snacks, hot coffee and mittens to keep themselves going until the morning after Thanksgiving.
"We're good to go," Torres said.
The friends take turns sleeping at the store overnight in order to preserve their prime spot. Alva's husband steps in if they both have to leave for any reason.
"The point is to get the sales, because everybody is on a fixed income and we don't have that kind of money to splurge," Alva's husband said.
The plan is to buy a 50-inch high-definition television for under $200 when the stores open on Black Friday. The store will open the earliest it ever has on the holiday, at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving evening, and closing for a few hours before reopening at 8 a.m. on Friday morning, Syracuse.com reported.
People have a lot of different comments for Alva and Torres, as they get to see many different people throughout their days outside the store.
"They say you're dedicated. That's cool. Some say you're stupid," Torres said.
Alva's husband, who was not named, seems supportive of the team.
"They say they're crazy, but then they come and ask us can you save a spot in line, or can you do this for us? We're not here for that. We're just here to get our stuff and that's it," Alva's husband said.
