'Vacation Breasts,' Temporary Implants, May Be Coming To A Plastic Surgeon Near You

A New York City plastic surgeon wants to give women everywhere the chance to walk around with larger breasts for two weeks before going back to their normal size.

In an age of noninvasive beauty treatments, Dr. Norman Rowe is developing a procedure where a saline-based solution is injected into each breast to make them bigger for a period of two to three weeks, ABC News reported Tuesday.

Rowe- the same doctor who created "insta breasts," a similar enlargement procedure that lasts 24 hours- says the new procedure is a way for women to test drive what it's like to have larger breasts before getting actual implants.

"Twenty-four hours is great," Rowe, based in Manhattan, told ABC News, "but it's still just 24 hours."

The board certified plastic surgeon would not comment on what the new injection is made of or how it will make breasts stay a size bigger or two for days on end. His initial "insta breast" injection, at $2,500 a pair, is made from a saline solution.

With "vacation breasts," Rowe said women can also get them for special events, such as when traveling or attending a wedding, ABC News reported. But the ultimate purpose is to give women a real-life experience before shelling out thousands of dollars for breast augmentation.

"You can use 3-D imaging and put implants in bras, but it's another thing to see what the weight will actually feel like and what it will be like to live with the new breasts," the doctor said.

Other medical experts, however, warn against using any medical procedure without knowing what the risks are.

"With this procedure, there is the risk of hitting a blood vessel with the injection (forming a hematoma) as well as a risk of infection, and the long-term risks, while they appear low, are unknown at this time," said Dr. Jennifer Ashton, the station's senior medical contributor.

Rowe said the same solution used in "vacation breasts" is already widely accepted in the medical community. He hopes to start performing the procedure by 2016.
