NCAA Football: Florida State Gets No. 1 QB Commit

No. 1-rated quarterback prospect Malik Henry has announced his commitment to Florida State. This move pushes the Seminoles to the front of the race for the top recruiting class in 2016.

"I felt comfortable around coach Jimbo Fisher," Henry said on ESPNU's "College Football Daily" on Thursday afternoon. "I think he's a great quarterback coach, he knows his stuff and their offense is explosive. I think I can see myself in their offense."

FSU won out in a stacked competition for the 6-foot-3, 185 pound QB prospect. Henry received offers from several of the nation's college football powerhouses including Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas and USC. Henry, the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2016 class, announced his top four - Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and UCLA - on Twitter on Aug. 7.

"It was a tough decision, but I finally realized it was Florida State a week or two ago, after talking to Coach Fisher and reminiscing about my trip there," Henry told ESPN.com. "I felt comfortable at Florida State and around Tallahassee."

Henry must not be afraid of some friendly competition, as he will be behind two ESPN top 300 prospects at quarterback at FSU. Both 2015 commitments Deondre Francois and De'Andre Johnson are touted as talented dual threat quarterbacks.

Henry is also a baseball star who plans to play both sports at the collegiate level. In fact, that versatility helped FSU recruit him as they pointed to Jameis Winston's success in both sports.

"I do plan to play baseball," Henry said. "I've talked to the coaches about it and we've discussed it, and they're OK with me playing baseball."

"I'm fine with [Winston comparisons]," Henry later said. "I think Jameis is a great QB and is also a dual-sport guy. I think we have a lot of similarities, so I'm good with that."

Henry is the fourth 2016 top 300 prospect recruit to commit to FSU. He threw for 2,362 yards and 21 touchdowns against 10 interceptions as a sophomore. Through ten games this season, his team is 8-2, and Henry has thrown for 1,932 yards and 15 touchdowns with just four interceptions.
