This is a story about a dog, a car and a woman. Someone gets run over and is awarded $140,000.
It isn't the dog.
An Australian woman in her 60s, who chooses not to be named, put her three dogs in her car: two in the back and one in the passenger side, according to ABC Australia. Being a good pet owner, the woman had the car running so the pups would have some air conditioning. The pooch in the front bumped the hand break as the woman tried to get in the driver's seat. The woman was caught in the door and dragged before falling and being run over by her own car.
"When she walked into the office and she simply said 'I was run over by my dog', I literally did think 'I've heard it all now'," the victim's lawyer Ann Cunningham said, according to ABC Australia.
"While it has its humorous dimension, the major injuries caused were no laughing matter for the woman concerned," continued the attorney, according to ABC Australia."She obviously had lots of abrasions on her, but she also suffered an injury to her left hip that has ended up requiring multiple surgeries ... She also ended up having both shoulders replaced, and also she had issues with her back and her neck."
Almost 10 years later, doctors think the woman will not need further surgery, according to ABC Australia.
The Transport Accident Commission of the state of Victoria "offered her $143,590 no fault injury compensation, on top of medical expenses and income entitlements," according to ABC Australia.
"It has been a long process where the TAC is unable to assess the injuries fully until the person is stabilized," Cunningham said, according to ABC News."Because this lady has had to have many lots of surgery it has taken a long time for her to reach that point ... It has been really good to get a great result in the end for her, but it has certainly been a difficult journey."
