‘Captain America: Civil War’ Adds Daniel Bruhl As Possible Villain

Daniel Bruhl will enter the Marvel fray in an as-yet-unnamed part, but reportedly the villain, for "Captain America: Civil War," according to Marvel.com.

The film will kickoff Phase 3 of the Marvel slate and pits Chris Evans' Captain America against Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man. The movie will also introduce Chadwick Boseman's character Black Panther.

"With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said. News sites like Deadline are reporting the role will be that of the villain.

Bruhl earned numerous award nominations for his role as Formula 1 driver Niki Lauda in Ron Howard's 2013 film "Rush." The film also co-starred Chris Hemsworth, who stars as Thor in the Marvel franchise.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" directors Joe and Anthony Russo will return to helm the third installment of Steve Rogers' story. The film may also include Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye character and will lead to Boseman starring in the "Black Panther" solo flick in 2017.

"Captain America" star Sebastian Stan is listed on the cast list and cinematic regulars Samuel L. Jackson, as Nick Fury, and Scarlett Johannson, as Black Widow, are "expected to take part," according to Deadline.

Feige called "Civil War" the "civil war of the cinematic universe" when the studio announced the Phase 3 film slate in October. "Avengers: Age of Ultron," out on May 1, 2015, will introduce the already growing tension between Rogers and Tony Stark.

"Captain America: Civil War" premieres on May 6, 2014.
