Dog Rides On Ambulance To Be With Owner

Buddy, the beagle mix dog, is so devoted to his owner that when JR Nicholson had to go to the hospital, buddy leaped onto the outside of the ambulance and stayed for 20 miles before a fellow driver told the EMTs the dog was riding with them, according to Life With Dogs.

"It was a crazy ordeal," EMT Tanner Brown said.

Nicholson, 85, told EMS workers he was feeling dizzy and wanted to be taken to the hospital. Ranch hand Brian Wright stayed behind to close up.

"I stayed to close up here," he said. "But I couldn't find Buddy."

After the roughly one-hour trip, Wright was shocked to find out that Buddy had gotten to the hospital. After the motorist told EMT workers that they had a hitchhiker, emergency personnel brought the pet inside the ambulance and continued on.

"Two things go through your mind in a split second," Wright said. "First, what could have happened to (Buddy), and second, you realize he is quite an animal."

Buddy was described by Wright as being a friendly and excitable dog that likes to roam the ranch and ride the tractor.

"It was kind of funny. We were inside and he had jumped onto the control switch and turned on the sirens and the lights," Brown said, according to Go San Angelo. "We didn't know what was going on."

Nicholson was sent home from the hospital that same day, and doctors brought him outside to be reunited with buddy.

"I was impressed," Nicholson said. "He didn't have to go to the hospital with me, but he did."
