"Hatred of Jews" is on the rise in Germany once more, said Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Steinmeier spoke of an increase in anti-semitism at an international conference on anti-semitism on Nov. 13, according to the Daily Mail. He said the anti-semitic sentiment is crossing Europe and possibly encouraged by Middle East conflicts and increased violence in the Gaza strip.
"Bold and brutal anti-semitism has shown its ugly face again," Steinmeier said during an Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe meeting, according to the Daily Mail.
Karen Polak, from Amsterdam's Anne Frank House, also spoke at the conference about "lots of outspoken violence against Jews who obviously have no responsibility for the policies of the state of Israel," according to the Daily Mail.
"You see it time and time again - when tension in the Middle East rises, anti-semitic incidents in Europe rise," Polak said, according to the Daily Mail.
U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power said these attacks "are not only a threat to the Jewish community, they are a threat to the larger project of European liberalism and pluralism," according to the Daily Mail.
During the conference, Power asked EU leader Angela Merkel of Germany why OSCE attendance has declined in the last decade, according to Daily Mail.
"Make no mistake - we have a problem," Merkel answered, according to the Daily Mail.
With far-right extremists making gains in European Parliament, as they did during May's elections, the OSCE is warning religious leaders to be on alert.
