Ol' St. Nick came early for good little Nintendo fanboys and girls across the country on Sunday, Nov. 16 after a price listing error on Sears.com sent video gamers scrambling for their credit cards and lighting up social media.
The website pricing error lowered the prices on the Nintendo Wii U "Mario and Luigi" bundle and the blue and black Nintendo 3DS XL to just $59.99...which is a good bit lower than their normal prices of $299.99 and $249.99, respectively.
After social media went berserk in regard to this pricing error, Sears did their level best to correct the problem while stores were reportedly ordered to turn away customers wanting those prices in-store. Numerous video gamers, however, took word of the "discount" price to other retailers in an effort to take advantage of price matching policies with mixed results. There were posts and photos from people across North America who found success with getting Walmart to price match on one or both systems, with some showing they purchased multiples along with photos of their Walmart receipts. Others announced they were turned away when requesting the price match.
Sears has now corrected the issue, with the 3DS XL now showing the intended sale price of $199.99. As of this writing, the Nintendo Wii U bundle involved in the pricing gaffe was no longer showing up in search results. Thanks to the Examiner for the tip.
