A secret email cache involving two young Democratic operatives, who happen to be potential campaign managers for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, was revealed this past week by ABC News, and revealed inside are inappropriate comments geared toward their Republicans counterparts.
Self-identifying as the "Mook Mafia," the private listserv group reaches more than 150 campaign veterans, and is used by Robby Mook and Marlon Marshall to stay connected with others who would likely work in a Democratic presidential campaign in 2016, reported ABC News.
Included in the emails are calls from Mook to "smite Republicans mafia-style," and vows from Marshall to "punish those voters."
Mook and Marshall have both been mentioned as possible Hillary Clinton campaign managers, and the Democratic listserv member who anonymously provided the emails to ABC did so to highlight the true nature of the operatives who could end up with a leadership role in Clinton's campaign.
Mook, 34, who managed Terry McAuliffe's gubernatorial campaign last year, previously worked on Howard Dean's 2004 campaign, and also ran a series of state efforts for Clinton's 2008 bid, reported ABC.
Marshall, who is currently a special assistant to President Barack Obama and serves as a principal deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, also previously served under Clinton's 2008 campaign.
In January 2010, Marshall gave "an overall big thank you to everyone on this list who continues to fight the good fight," referring to efforts on behalf of Massachusetts Senate candidate Martha Coakley.
"F U Republicans. Mafia till I die," he continued. "If you have just a few minutes, hop on that [targeted voter contact software] and punish those voters!"
When Marshall accepted a new job, Mook wrote, "I know this prodigal son will return to the mafia manager soon enough to smite Republicans mafia-style."
Marshall responded, "First, the mafia never separates, it just continues to grow and expand and move into other states in order to destroy Republicans. A special thanks to none other than the namesake himself, Deacon Robby Mook. Without him, there would be no mafia and I for sure know I would not have learned as much as I have in this business and have this opportunity."
