Halo 5 Release Date: New Trailer for 2014 Halo Debuted At E3 (VIDEO)

A new “Halo” is coming to the Xbox One in 2014, according to an announcement at Microsoft’s E3 Monday. A new trailer for the next Halo—arguably the most prestigious game on Xbox—debuted at the conference.

The trailer begins showing a figure walking in a white-sanded desert wearing a cloak. As this figure travels the ground begins to shake and break all around him. Pretty soon a giant ship rises from the ground. It spreads its wings and blows back the hood of the figure’s cloak to reveal—Master Chief.

At the end of the trailer the word “Halo” slowly appears on the screen. According to IGN, this is most likely a temporary title to make the trailer seem complete. It’s unlikely the game, which will be another creation of 343 Industries, would have the same name as the first game in the franchise. (However “Killer Instinct”, which was also presented at E3, will have the same name as the first game of the series—although the last time a “Killer Instinct” game came brand new to a console was in 1996. But I digress.)

According to IGN, the new game will have servers to enhance the multiplayer experience. The game will also “run at 60 frames per second.”

The Halo franchise is also supposed to collaborate with Steven Spielberg on a live-action Halo Series.

Also announced today was the new Halo game for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, “Halo: Spartan Assault.” It takes place between “Halo 3” and “Halo 4.”

“With ‘Halo: Spartan Assault,’ we wanted to take ‘Halo’ out of the living room and create a brand new experience that was built specifically for a different screen,” said Dan Ayoub, the game’s executive producer.

According to the Xbox news website the game is $6.99 and will debut in July.
