Guinness World Record Champion Uses iPhone 6 Plus to Set New Speed Texting Record

Seventeen-year-old Marcel Fernandes Filho from Brazil has broken the Guinness World Record for speed texting for the second time, this time with an iPhone 6 Plus.

The accomplishment follows Filho's previous record set in May with a Samsung Galaxy 4, in which he sent a message in 18.19 seconds, according to CNET. The record was sent with a Fleksy keyboard, which allegedly lets users type LOL and 4Ever much quicker than they could on any other keyboard.

The message reads, "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human."

The new record was set earlier this month in New York, in which Filho typed the same words in his iPhone 6 Plus in 17 seconds flat. The teenager said he wasn't sure why he was able to type faster on the phablet.

"It could be the slight difference in screen size, it could be how responsive the touchscreen is. I'm glad I can use Fleksy on both devices now though," Filho said.

Fleksy's keyboard is the first to allow blind people to type on a smartphone and the first to be featured on a smartwatch, BGR reported. The company has won several awards with its next generation keyboard, including the CES Award for Design and Engineering, the South by Southwest (SXSW) Award and a 2014 Golden Stevie Award for Innovation.

Filho's record-breaking achievement also served as an opportunity for Fleksy to announce that the price of its Android app has dropped to $1.99.

"We're very proud of Fleksy's involvement in helping Marcel achieve this impressive feat," said Ioannis Verdelis, co-founder and CEO of Fleksy. "The speed and accuracy Fleksy provides have yet again proven world-class."
