Chrysler, the American automobile manufacturer, has recalled about 15,000 Dodge Dart compact cars over an engine stall defect.
Chrysler Group LLC has recalled nearly 14,800 Dodge Dart compact cars over an engine stall defect. Chrysler released a statement Monday, June 10,saying that they needed to recalibrate "their powertrain control modules."
Chrysler learned about the defect after internally testing one of the Dodge Darts parked in a room at 20 degree Fahrenheit for eight hours. The car stalled moments after it was started, Chrysler said in the statement.
Chrysler coordinated with dealers and customers for similar incidents after the internal testing and announced the recall. The recall only affects 2013 model Dodge Darts equipped with 1.4-litre four cylinder engines and dual clutch automatic transmission.
According to Canadian safety regulators, the engine stall could lead to power loss, resulting in car crash, injury or property damage. However, Chrysler has not reported any such incidents of crashes or injuries related to the defect.
According to the Chrysler press statement, the engine re calibration will be done for all customers at no cost. Chrysler will proactively contact every Dart customer to alert about the repair. Chrysler says most of the Dart owners, about 12,900, are in the United States, while 1,900 are in Canada, five in Mexico and 16 outside North America.
It is important Chrysler watches out for its first car made with the Chrysler Group LLC collaborating with its Italian owner, Fiat SpA, for a better profitable future.
The recall comes a week after Chrysler refused to recall 2.7 million older Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty SUVs on government's request. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic, the reason for the requested recall was faulty gas tanks.
