Tracy Morgan continues on the road to recovery, but a severe brain injury may limit the comedian's future prospects.
Morgan's lawyer Benedict Morelli discussed his client's ongoing recovery process at a scheduling conference for his Wal-Mart lawsuit on Nov. 18, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The "30 Rock" star suffered a traumatic brain injury in the June 7 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, in addition to a broken leg, nose and ribs.
"He's fighting to get better, and if there's a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he's going to try to do that," Morelli said. "But we just don't know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury."
Morgan filed suit against Wal-Mart in July because one of its trucks caused the accident that left the former "Saturday Night Live" star and two others injured. Comedian James McNair also died in the crash. Morgan sued for punitive and compensatory damages, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Truck driver Kevin Roper slammed his truck into the back of Morgan's limo bus and caused a six-car accident. Morgan's lawsuit alleges Roper was fatigued at the time of the crash because he had been "awake for more than 24 consecutive hours" and "Walmart knew or should have known."
FX delayed the production start of Morgan's new show in August. The cable network said the show "will be waiting for him" if or when he returns.
"When you have a traumatic brain injury it takes a very long time to find out how you're going to do and how much you're going to recover," Morelli said. "You just don't know. So that's where he is. He's still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he's just not better. We're hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury's out."
