Kenyan Woman Attacked and Stripped by Men Claiming She Was Inappropriately Dressed In Latest Incident

Hours after Kenyan women took to the streets to protest attacks by men, a mob of Kenyan men attacked and stripped a woman claiming she was inappropriately dressed, according to Breitbart.com.

The women in the latest incident was also severely beaten at a bus stop in the Kayole shantytown in the northeast of the city yesterday and had to be taken to the hospital, AFP reported.

The Nairobi protest attracted almost 1,000 women as they marched in downtown Nairobi to protest the rising wave of such assaults, Breitbart.com reported.

Police responded by arresting nearly 100 people, a police official said Tuesday, according to Reuters. Most of the men arrested were conductors on mini-buses where many of the attacks regularly take place.

Nairobi police criminal investigations chief Nicholas Kamwende said the attacks were a "menace" and said the vigilance would be heightened to stop the attacks from happening, Breitbart.com reported.

The mobs of men have attacked women wearing mini-skirts and any outfit they consider too revealing including tight-fitting or sleeveless clothes, according to Breitbart.com.

In social media sites, the hashtag #MyDressMyChoice is trending as the protests and media attention continues, Breitbart.com reported. Some conservative Christian Kenyan groups have countered that women must dress appropriately as to not provoke men.

The video that caused Monday's marches shows a mob of men surrounding a woman while ripping away her clothes until she was naked, according to Breitbart.com. These attacks have occurred for years in Kenya.
