Pope Francis Raffling Off Gifts, Raising Money For Poor

Pope Francis is raffling off gifts given to him to raise money for the poor.

Typically popes in the past have quietly passed along gifts given to them to missions, church institutions, or they just let them collect dust in the Vatican warehouse, Reuters reported.

Going against the traditional ways popes did things in the past is nothing new for Pope Francis, as he is known for his ascetic way of life.

Pope Francis is following his own teachings of stressing the importance of helping the poor with this raffle.

He began hanging posters around the Vatican announcing the raffle of 13 objects and 30 other unspecified "consolation prizes," Reuters reported. Raffle tickets cost 10 euros ($12.50).

The raffle will be drawn on Jan. 8 and all of the proceeds will go to the poor.

Below is a list of some of the known items that will be raffled:

1. Fiat Panda 4x4 1.3 JTD.

2. Racing bicycle (light blue).

3. Bicycle (orange) with panniers.

4. City bicycle (grey).

5. Tandem bicycle (white).
