Earlier this month 26-year-old Afton Elaine Burton and her fiancé Charles Manson (yes, that Charles Manson) obtained a wedding license in California and have 90 days to get hitched. According to reports, Burton first started dating the mass murder when she was 17 and moved from Illinois to California so she could visit him more easily.
Well, the two are set to tie the knot next month at Corcoran State Prison and, as expected, the ceremony won't be an elaborate affair. According to TMZ, Manson won't be shackled during the nuptials but touching will be limited.
A source told the site that the convicted murderer will be allowed to kiss Burton and hold hands during the ceremony but that's about it. The two won't be able to consummate their marriage since Manson isn't granted conjugal visits.
TMZ also reports that Manson won't be allowed to wear a tux (he'll have to walk down the aisle in prison attire) but Burton can wear a wedding gown if she wants to. As far as wedding guests, the couple can invite 10 non-inmates but it seems like the guest list will be very, very small.
According to the New York Post, Burton's mom, Melissa, has already said she plans on skipping the nuptials.
"She knows how we feel about it. If I could choose a life for my daughter, I'd choose a normal one," she told the Post, adding that other family members have decided to decline the invite as well.
Even though Melissa won't be at her daughter's wedding, she did tell the Post that she doesn't worry about Burton marrying the murderer.
"I know [Manson] has made lots of bad choices, but I don't think he's dangerous. The media has made him into more of a monster than he is," Burton told the Post. "I am not scared about [Afton's] safety and I don't believe my daughter is brainwashed."
A prison source told TMZ that Burton, Manson and their guests will be fed food catered by the same company that produces Cup-O-Noodles and will have access to the vending machines.
