Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon took a few minutes out of his busy being-awesome-all-the-time schedule to lampoon the NHL's reported expansion efforts in the "sleepy little town" of Las Vegas.
Fallon offered that zinger, among a number of other jokes, while compiling a list of pros and cons for the NHL's plan to bring a team to the gambling epicenter of the world.
A lot of Fallon's jokes fall into the "tried and true" category - which is a nice way of saying that he builds most of them off tired stereotypes. But hey, Fallon's a funny, funny guy and hockey, still very much the least watched for the four major sports, doesn't often get national exposure on this level.
I'm sure somewhere in the bowels of a Manhattan office building, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is rubbing his hands together and muttering "Excellent" to himself in a very Mr. Burns-like manner as he watches the clip again and again.
Check out the video for yourself. It's very much worth your time.
The "Gambling On Ice" line is pretty good, as is Fallon's attempt to pronounce a few Russian players names. But by far my personal favorite has to be the Hat Trick line - that kind of dark humor, derived from a place of sadness, loss and pain, really just speaks to me.
Go figure.
