"Guardians of the Galaxy" launched Chris Pratt to A-list status over the summer and has given him the pick of the best scripts in Hollywood. He has scoured the stacks and found his next leading role.
Pratt will star in the Universal adaptation of the graphic novel Cowboy Ninja Viking, written by A.J. Lieberman and illustrated by Riley Rossmo, according to Collider. His character Duncan has Multiple Personality Disorder, which a secret counter-intelligence unit uses to transform him into an assassin with the skills of a cowboy, ninja and Viking.
Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese penned the script and originally pitched the idea to Disney who called the material "too edgy," according to Collider. The film still needs a director.
The story revolves around the secret organization that puts Multiple Personality Disorder patients through a series of treatments, therapies and drug remedies to transform them into agents known as Triplets, who possess three different personalities. Duncan escapes the facility experimenting on him and seeks revenge against the billionaire who funded the program.
The script describes Duncan as three different people according to each persona, but his appearance never changes for onlookers. The film may hire three different actors to play each personality and keep Pratt as Duncan, according to Collider.
Pratt will stay busy over the next few years. His NBC comedy "Parks and Recreation" will wrap its final season this coming spring. He'll then star in the Jurassic Park reboot "Jurassic World," opening on June 12, before heading back into space to start work on Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," set to premiere in 2017.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" broke box-office records when it premiered this August and has grossed more than $768 million worldwide.
