Vermont-based Cremation Solutions has taken urns and ashes into the 3-D printing era, by using the new technology to "print" 3-D replicas of your loved one's head to contain their ashes after cremation.
"Now we can create a custom cremation urn for ashes in the image of your loved one or favorite celebrity or hero, even President Obama," the product website boasts. The company offers to customize the urn to erase blemishes or they suggest using a youthful picture "if you want to be remembered as you were years ago."
Hair can be added for those will short 'dos or a wig can be added to urns representing people with longer locks.
The company also writes that the customizable urns are a great way to avoid confusion by visitors to your home who may think the urn is a vase. "With these urns, you can avoid those questions," according to the website. "Perfectly matching the image of your loved one, people will just assume that you had a bust made to remember them. The biggest difference between the urns and a picture is that they are three-dimensional. People won't feel compelled to ask why you have it, and they certainly won't ask what's in it. It helps you keep the ashes a little more personal and private."
Full-sized personalized urns will set you back $2,600 and the smaller version costs $600.
