Bill Cosby's TV career is going up in smoke. Amid rape allegations against the TV legend, both Netflix Land and NBC have either postponed or axed upcoming projects involving the actor and comedian.
Following the cancellation of his appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman," Netflix announced on Tuesday that it has postponed Cosby's stand-up comedy special, "Bill Cosby 77. "
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show was filmed on Cosby's 77th birthday and was set to debut a day after Thanksgiving. Cosby's publicist David Brokaw told CNN that the decision to postpone the special was amicable.
NBC also announced Wednesday that the network has pulled the plug on Cosby's proposed sitcom comeback. The project was announced in January and the untitled family sitcom was set to debut next fall.
"Bill plays the patriarch of the family, dispensing his classic wisdom on relationships and parenthood, with three daughters, husbands, and grandchildren," NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said about the show during the Television Critics Association press tour in July.
There's bad news for fans of "The Cosby Show," too.
TV Land will no longer air repeats of "The Cosby Show" - which aired on the network during weekends. A "Cosby Show" marathon was planned between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
TV Land as not commented on the change in schedule.
Several alleged victims, including supermodel Janice Dickson, have come forward with claims that the actor either raped or sexually abused them in the 1970s and '80s. The actor's lawyer released a statement calling the allegations against his clinet false.
"Over the last several weeks, decades-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced," Cosby's lawyer said in a statement on BillCosby.com. "The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment,"
"He would like to thank all his fans for the outpouring of support and assure them that, at age 77, he is doing his best work," Cosby lawyer John P. Schmitt said in a statement. "There will be no further statement from Mr. Cosby or any of his representatives."
