"Longmire" fans saddened by A&E's cancellation of the show can now thank Netflix that the series is back for a fourth season.
The streaming site was able to reach a deal with Warner Horizon Television and will begin airing 10 new episodes of the show in 2015, according to E! News.
"We're excited and honored to have the opportunity to bring this show that we love so much, and all its devoted fans, to Netflix," said "Longmire's" executive producers.
"Longmire," based on author Craig Johnson's mystery novels of the same name, centers on Walt Longmire, a determined sheriff in Absaroka County, Wyoming played by Robert Taylor, Deadline reported. Co-stars include Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Cassidy Freeman, Bailey Chase and Adam Bartley.
Season 3 ended with Longmire finding out who was responsible for his wife's murder and going on a pursuit for revenge, while Branch Connelly (Chase), who fired Walt for violent behavior, believes he already found the culprit and confronts the suspected killer. The confrontation ends with a gun shot.
While "Longmire" was the most-watched original scripted series on A&E, the channel's insiders said advertisers, who were trying to attract a younger audience, didn't believe the show was valuable since it was attracting older viewers, thus deeming it an unprofitable show, Deadline reported. "Longmire" is not expected to run into the same problem on Netflix.
Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix, said the company was interested in bringing back "Longmire" because it saw the show as "unique and consistently great," according to E! News.
"We are thrilled to help continue Walt Longmire's story for his large and passionate following," Holland added.
"Longmire" is the latest series that Netflix has resurrected after getting canceled, with others including "Arrested Development," which came back for a fourth season, and "The Killing," which showed its fourth and final season on the site.
