Detroit Man Calls Father To Confess To Stabbing Mother To Death, Police Say

A Michigan father received a chilling phone call on Thursday from his son confessing to stabbing his mother to death, police said.

Police arrived at a Detroit home Thursday morning to find a 53-year-old woman dead on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds, WWJ reported. No other details about the victim or murder weapon have been released.

"I can tell you that it's a gruesome scene but I really don't want to release the details of the injuries at this time," Police Captain Rodney Cox told the station.

Before the victim was found, her 24-year-old son called his father to tell him what he had done, police said. The father then called law enforcement.

"The son was possibly on medication for an illness, and he may not have been taking his medication which could have contributed to his actions," Cox said.

The names of the victim, the father and son, who is in custody, have not been released.

It was not immediately clear what caused the son to allegedly stab his mother, who reportedly was a nurse at Henry Ford Hospital. Neighbors said lately she had been complaining about having problems with her son. Police have also previously responded to calls to the home, but Cox said he doesn't know why.

"We are interviewing some of the neighbors to try to get some information, try to find out exactly what happened and what may have contributed to this or led to this," Cox told WWJ.
