Cher Cancels Remainder of 'Dressed to Kill' Tour Due to Illness

Disappointing news for Cher fans.

The 68-year-old singer and actress has been forced to cancel the remaining shows of her "Dressed to Kill" tour, as she continues to recover from a viral infection she contracted in September. The Oscar and Grammy winner has been ordered by her doctors to take more time to rest.

"While her progress has been consistent, Cher's doctors have advised her to take more time to ensure a complete and total recovery," the Madison Square Garden company announced.

Cher expressed her disappointment over the situation in a statement posted on her website, which read, "I am totally devastated. Nothing like this has ever happened to me. I cannot apologize enough to all the fans who bought tickets. I'm so proud of this show. It is my best ever. I sincerely hope that we can come back again next year and finish what we started."

The singer's tour launched in March in support of her 2013 album "Closer to the Truth." Cher completed 49 tour dates before taking a scheduled break in July. She was first diagnosed with the infection that affected her kidney function shortly after resuming her tour in September.

Tickets for the canceled shows will be refunded at the "point of purchase," Variety reported. Over 20 dates, including appearances in Washington, D.C., New York City, Boston, Toronto and Chicago, have been canceled.
