'Howard the Duck' Getting a New Series from Marvel Comics

"Howard the Duck" is one of those characters that was more an invention, or being, of zeitgeist. He worked in the down-on-our luck 70's on the page, but the movie version of Howard from the 80's, which is what most people really remember him from, was a well-documented disaster. Regardless, Howard will be returning for a new ongoing series from Marvel Comics, according to Comic Book Resources (via Entertainment Weekly).

Howard does deserve another shot, even though the quality of the books he has featured in over the years once original Howard co-creator and mastermind Steve Gerber departed were, at best, inconsistent. Marvel is doubling down on the new interest in Howard due to his end scene cameo in "Guardians of the Galaxy," and by giving this new, ongoing series a fantastic creative team.

Chip Zdarsky ("Sex Criminals") and Joe Quinones ("Black Canary" and "Zatanna: Bloodspell") are going to give Howard the Duck one more shot at the big time with "Howard the Duck" #1, arriving from Marvel on March 4, 2015. Despite Howard's recent box-office success, his greatest moments have always come in comics, usually in the form of subversive social commentary and sly skewering of comics tropes.

With that in mind, one of the brains behind "Sex Criminals" should be able to give Howard the edge he always needed to thrive. And Joe Quinones' art is nothing to sneeze at either.

Stay tuned for more on this one, true believers.
