We hope you've already watched the fall finale of ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder" because it was a complete shocker! In episode 9 (titled "Kill Me, Kill Me, Kill Me"), fans finally found out who murdered Sam (Tom Verica).
WARNING: Spoilers for episode of 9 of "How to Get Away with Murder."
A quick recap: The episode started with Annalise (Viola Davis) packing Sam's things after she finally realizes that he knew Lila was pregnant. The two get into a nasty argument and eventually Annalise leaves and is seen sitting outside the police station, ready to turn her husband in for the death of Lila.
At the same time as she's sitting outside the police station, Michaela (Aja Naomi King) shows up to the Keaton household just as Rebecca (Katie Findlay) arrives. Sam believes the two ladies are trying to set him up but Michaela was simply trying to use the Immunity Iron to get out of taking the final exam. However, Rebecca is on a mission to prove that Sam is Lila's killer and locks herself in his bedroom to steal information off his computer.
The rest of the gang - minus Asher (Matt McGorry) - arrives to the Keaton household to stop Sam but things go horribly wrong when Michaela accidentally pushes Sam over the second floor railing. They panic thinking he's dead, but he's not. Sam starts choking Rebecca when Wes (Alfred Enoch) grabs the trophy and hits Sam in the back of the head. This time he is dead.
During the episode, it's also revealed that Annalise was at the house and saw Sam's dead body when Wes returned to get the trophy. It ends with the group meeting up at the Keaton household to talk to the police about Sam "skipping town" because of Lila's death.
That's a lot to take in and thankfully TV Guide caught up with executive producer Peter Norwalk to answer a few questions about episode 9 and to tease the rest of the season. Check out some highlights below.
The scales on the trophy used to kill Sam are missing:
"Good eye! [Laughs] The rule that I've always had about the little things on the show, like the scales, Michaela's missing ring and shirtless Frank calling Laurel that we saw in the pilot - sometimes things aren't what they seem and sometimes they are. Yes, the scales are missing and there are a lot of other loose ends that for sure could come back to haunt them. The point is these are young people who are not used to committing murder. Mistakes will be made and there will be a lot of work to cover it up."
Annalise was super calm sitting next to her husband's dead body:
"That's why we chose to end the episode with a question mark and a little bit of a, 'Wait, what?' I love that if people are interested, they can go back and put those puzzle pieces together themselves, especially since we don't really know what happens after that moment when she says, 'Don't be.' Anything couldn't happened. We will be revealing what she was doing."
Speaking of people being really calm, Wes doesn't seem at all worried. What happened in the living room?:
"I don't want to say for sure one way or another, but it's my goal to give the audience answers and not just confuse them for the heck of it. So my goal right now is to connect the dots for people.
Why keep mentioning Rudy and the scratches on the wall in Wes' apartment:
"I don't know if it'll all tie together because that makes me nervous, but that's another question mark that we'll answer."
Laurel seems very calculated:
"I love how Laurel is always thinking 10 steps ahead and tries to plan. She says to Michaela, 'This is not a thing you can control' and I think that's Laurel's way of controlling it. Michaela, in a sense, is actually having the most healthy reaction, which is to be f***king traumatized and freaking out. None of us know what we'd do in that situation."
How will the final six episodes play out?:
"It's not gonna go how you expect. We pick up very soon after where Episode 9 ended. A lot of the questions that we started with will be answered. How much do Bonnie and Frank know? In terms of what happens with Rebecca's trial, that will be resolved."
Will Lila's murderer be revealed?:
"Yes, I can say that!"
"How to Get Away with Murder" returns Jan. 29 on ABC.
