The first teaser trailer for the next installment of the J.R.R. Tolkien inspired trilogy "The Hobbit" has been released and it comes packed with action, adventure and just enough to keep fans of "An Unexpected Journey" clamoring for more until the films release on December 13.
The new film is titled "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug." It brings the gang of dwarves back along with Ian McKellen as Gandalf and, of course Martin Freeman as the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. In addition, some familiar faces pop up in the new film as well including Evangeline Lilly and Luke Evans. The most notable return is Orlando Bloom's return as the elvish archer Legolas.
Although not technically a new face in the next movie, Martin Freeman's Sherlock companion Benedict Cumberbatch joins the cast to play the voice of Smaug, the dragon who is guarding the treasure and homeland of the dwarfs. In addition, IMDB lists Cumberbatch as "The Necromancer" as well. The trailer and more information are located below.

The second installment in Peter Jackson's "Hobbit" trilogy picks up after the successful escape from Azog in the first movie, the dwarvish company continues to trek forward to reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug.
The trailer shows them in league with elves once again and the two wizards off on their own battling the necromancer. The trailer concludes with Bilbo face to face with the dreaded dragon on top of a large pile of gold. The plan from the first movie was to have Bilbo sneak into the chamber as the company's burglar and open a secret door that will allow them access to surprise the dragon. It would appear that that plan did not work out as originally intended as Bilbo seems to have definitely been spotted.
Jackson, director of the "Hobbit" as well as the wildly successful "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, brings this next installment of "The Hobbit," to theaters this winter with one last "Hobbit" movie planned after that. The third will be the conclusion to the series already titled "The Hobbit: There and Back Again."
